NoSQL Database Administrator II – US at Rackspace

Job Summary:

We’re hiring for a NoSQL Database administrator who will be responsible for providing the highest level of technical support. In this role you’ll support and maintain database solutions, system enhancements, and reliability that will improve the performance of the system. You also deploy and implement system and application patches with developers, business analysts, and support end users to provide system administration support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in designing, building, deploying and maintaining NoSQL databases.
  • Involved in the daily activities of configuration and system administration associated with non-production environments.
  • Optimize system operation, performance, and resource utilization.
  • Participate in system capacity analysis and planning.
  • Execute small to medium sized database projects.
  • Assist in documenting cluster strategies and architectures.
  • Install, configure, and upgrade non-production and production NoSQL software and related products.
  • Perform regular maintenance (i.e.: patches and upgrades), proactive monitoring and optimization of non-production and production environments.
  • Determine size and IOPS of a working set by analyzing queries.
  • Design embedded JSON data objects.
  • Perform query performance tuning.
  • Sets up role-based NoSQL authentication protocols.
  • Participate in root cause analysis sessions.
  • Identify operational gaps and recommends corrective actions.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree in a technology related field preferred.
  • 3+ years’ experience working with NoSQL databases.
  • Intermediate understanding of relational database (Oracle, SQL Server, MSSQL, PostgreSQL, etc.) and non-relational database (MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis, Cloudera, Hortonworks) environments, architecture, functionality, administration, setup and maintenance.
  • Ability to write and maintain Unix/Linux shell scripts.
  • Understanding of JSON and BSON.
  • Understanding of Master/Slave replication, including configuration and maintenance of a replica-set.
  • Familiarity of aggregation (aggregation pipeline, map-reduce, single purpose aggregation operations).
  • Knowledge of sharding mechanics (shard key, move, split chunks).
  • Understanding of benchmark, I/O performance utilizing toolsets (mongoperf, iostat, netstat, etc.).
  • Intermediate understanding of principles of automation and automation tools (Chef, Puppet, Python).
  • Intermediate understanding of troubleshooting, methodologies of design and implementation, root cause analysis, systems optimization, disaster recovery, configuration, and source code management, change control methods, SDLC, backup and recovery.

The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions.

  • The anticipated starting pay range of California, Washington state and New York City applicants for this role is $88,400 - $129,580.
  • The anticipated starting pay range of Colorado applicants for this role is $$75,800 - $111,210.

Unless already included in the posted pay range and based on eligibility, the role may include variable compensation in the form of bonus commissions, or other discretionary payments. The discretionary payments are based on company and/or individual performance and may change at any time. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, licenses and certifications, and specific work location.
