The Databases Team is Wolt’s center of expertise in databases. Its mission is to be the trusted advisor to Wolt’s growth, performance and reliability by providing visibility, expertise, vision and tooling to development teams.

We are now looking to grow our Databases team with a Database Engineer to make sure we can offer support for Postgres, MongoDb, Redis and Kafka. Our work starts with expertise, optimization, architecture and growth of our databases. Our primary database technologies today are PostgreSQL and MongoDB. Our focus for the future will go beyond distributed database technology.

As part of the team, you’ll be monitoring and following the databases to find potential problems, working to define and implement database architecture for our service, but also work as an expert engineer for database optimization and best practices within the organization, towards all of our engineering teams. You’ll be working closely with database engineers in your team, the performance engineers, observability experts and as well as with your DevOps colleagues in the Infrastructure team. You will work closely with our development teams to support with database optimization, performance tuning and scaling.

📍This role can be based in one of our tech hubs in Helsinki, Berlin or Stockholm, or you can work remotely anywhere in Finland, Sweden, Germany, Denmark, and Estonia. Our humble expectations

We expect you to have expertise in PostgreSQL,MongoDB but also appreciate experience in other SQL or Document databases.

You’ll be successful in this position if you are experienced in areas such as: high-availability and zero-downtime database architectures, data and schema modeling, partitioning and sharding, scalability and capacity planning, resource usage analysis (I/O, memory, etc.). You’re great at performance optimization, monitoring and scaling. Likewise, you’re well versed in HA and backup/restore procedures, automation and tooling for DBs.

Familiarity with modern cloud environments, DevOps tools, Kafka and practices as well as database service providers such as AWS, MongoDB Atlas or Aiven will help you get up to speed fast, as will experience in environments with Python or JVM languages in use. We hope you have worked in an always-on, high growth environment where you've experienced rapid scaling and continuous deployment.
