The Database Administrator (Database Administrator IV) position performs advanced database administration tasks for databases used by applications with complex data models, workflows, and reports. Assists the team in creating and maintaining logical and physical data models.
The DBA works on activities including but not limited to database tuning, indexing, customization, data migrations/conversions, installations, troubleshooting, upgrades, patching, user management, security of data at rest and in motion, disaster recovery, clustering for high availability and load balancing, data backup, purging and archiving, implementation of database policies, data replication and backup to secondary sites like disaster recovery environments, procedures for the integrity, availability, and confidentiality of the sensitive and business-critical databases.
This position requires hands-on experience as an administrator of relational databases like SQL Server or Oracle as well as experience in the management and administration of NoSQL databases like MongoDB in a cloud environment strongly preferred.
This position is expected to address high demand and may be required to participate in on-call rotation, as needed, with the expectation to complete all projects in a timely manner. This position provides daily supervision and oversight to other DBA resources. This position reports to the Director of Operations.
This position is 100% telework in the state of Texas and is for U.S. Citizens or residents only.
Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
Evaluates users' requests for new data elements and systems and incorporates into the existing shared data environment. Coordinates use of data to ensure data integrity and control redundancy. Loads databases and reorganizes as needed. Performs data modeling and prototyping. (30%)
Analyzes, designs, and implements databases. Determines and implements database search strategies. Determines database storage requirements. Develops and maintains data dictionary ensuring uniformity of definitions and sets standards for use of data dictionary. Establishes and controls necessary database security. (30%)
Designs, codes, and modifies complex computer programs, subroutines, triggers, stored procedures, objects, classes, and scripts to maintain reporting systems. Performs necessary testing of assigned programs, including the generation of test data, writing test scripts/execution sequences, examining test results, debugging detected errors, etc. Uses current software development methods/techniques and established development standards (which include programming standards, documentation standards and testing standards) to ensure the quality and maintainability of reports/applications. Participates in code walk-throughs to ensure compliance with development standards and system/business requirements. (20%)
Works with trainers, technical support staff, network specialists and contract staff to perform modifications and/or updates to existing systems or to implement new systems. Identifies, investigates, and resolves production problems. This may include analyzing problems, coding, testing, implementing, and training of other technical staff and/or customers. (15%)

Azure certification is preferred and not required. MongoDB DBA or DBA Associate certifications are preferred and not required.
Graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in business, communications, computer science, computer information systems, management information systems, or a related field. One year of appropriate experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Experience leading a team.
Preferred experience migrating databases from on-premise databases (SQL or No-SQL) to cloud environments.
